Jennifer Olmstead was born in Danville, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mary Ann, and spent her early childhood in a restored Victorian home. After her father, a Navy officer who served on a destroyer during WWII and later became a research pathologist, accepted a position with a medical center in Pittsburgh, the family moved to a 17-acre farm outside the city. She grew up riding and showing pleasure horses and making annual summer visits to her maternal grandparents' home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. After attending The Pittsburgh Academy, Chatham College and the University of Pittsburgh, she relocated to Virginia and began a career as an executive in the cultural arts field. In 2007, Olmstead made the decision to pursue a fulltime career as a writer. In addition to her fiction writing projects, she continues to assist non-profit organizations with marketing, public relations and funding projects. She lives on a horse farm in rural Virginia, which also occasionally serves as a foster home for injured, wild animals.
